COMPUTER OPERATIONS IN BUSINESS - #00532 20 WEEKS GRADES: 9-12 PREREQUISITE: None This course may be counted toward a Visual and Performing Applied Arts credit This course is intended for any student desiring exposure to business applications using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Students will develop proficiency in word processing, creating spreadsheets, multimedia presentations and databases. Skills will be taught and practiced using business scenarios and training tools to allow students to prepare for future college and career plans. Students can earn industry certification through the opportunity to take the Microsoft Office Certificate industry standard test.
SPOTLIGHT ON INSTRUCTION In Mrs. Malsbury’s Computer Operations in Business class, students were given the opportunity to take a National Certification in Microsoft Office, allowing them a gain national certification in multiple Microsoft Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel. To prepare for these certifications, students work through unit simulations and projects until they are personally prepared to test. Project-led strategies are used throughout the semester to help students perform more efficiently and effectively in the Microsoft environment. The certifications are used on students’ resumes and portfolios, allowing them to have the skills for future business endeavors, and prepare them for their business-based careers.

Microsoft Office Certifications 2017/18 This semester 27 certifications were awarded in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. Two students were awarded Suite Certs, Rachel Rettie and Jason Macwan (pictured below) and Jason Macwan also earned the coveted Master Certification. We definitely now know who to call if the help desk is busy. :-) Not pictured is Jeffery Collins.
